2 New Irish Champions for the Lair! Springhill Court Hotel was alive with fight fans last Sunday the 8th as the packed in to see some of Kilkennys best kickboxing talents on display, with 13 bouts ranging with fighters from 9 years of age upwards cumilated with the IKF Irish title fight between Troy" Dark Destroyer "Holohan and Iktar Ashymutalyv of Trallee. Well done to all the fighters who took part including , Adam Doyle, Morgan McEnroe, Gary O'Dwyer,John McGrath,Hayleigh "The Hurricane" Woods,Danny Quinn, Connor Doyle,Martin Doheny. The warm up to the main event saw Helen " The Punching Princess" Meagher who was crowned the IKF Junior Champion had an epic battle with the current IKF ladies champion in a explosive exhibition of female kickboxing. Finally the it was time for the main event, the athmosphere was electric as the Trallee man enter the ring but that was nothing compared to the deffening roar as the "Dark Destroyer" Troy Holohan entered, from the moment he entered the ring the confidence and determination could be seen, he had trained hard and long for this moment,the first round opened at a face pase with both fighters exchanging blows,the 2nd saw Troy step it up and chase his opponent around the ring and begin his domination to attain the title, rounds 3 and 4 saw more the same, the 5th and final round saw Iktar land a couple of good blows on Troy but there was no stopping him now ,he took what came at him and delt it back threefold,at the sound of the bell there was no doubt Kilkenny and Dragons Lair had a new Champion in Troy Holohan and moments later it was confirmed with the judges unanimous decision. Danny Quinn was crowned IKF Irish Heavyweight champion after 5 hard fought rounds against Dublins Wayne O'Dwyer in the Transport Club in Dublin last weekend, this is Dragons Lairs 2 champion and 3rd Irish title joining Danny with Connor Doyle, well done Danny and hopefully in future we will have more fighters joining the prestigious ranks of Champs The Hitman Returns???
Owen "the Hitman " Doyle returned to the ring last weekend all in the aid of charity and putting on a show in true "Hitman " fashion. Owen competed in a very entertaining 6 man event where 3 former kickboxing greats (Anto Byrne, Stephen Murphy & Owen) competed against a Wexford celebrity line up in a tag-team style. Mag Walsh also fought having a re-match with who had beaten Mags 3 weeks earlier, the re-match was non-stop action from start to finish with Mags coming of the victor this time with her accurate front kicks. Finally Chris Dowling also returned to the ring for an exehibition bout against Irish No1 Wayne Dwyer from Dublin , the referee stopped this bout after 15 seconds when Dwyer was downed with a right roundhouse. Dragons Lair Fighter Makes Leinster Boxing Final Troy Holohan narrowly lost out on his first Leinster boxing title Saturday the 26th, in a thrillling fight on a score of 3-2 to the current Irish Champion for the division, what an achievment for a young man who only took up boxing a few short months ago and has been kickboxing just over a year, with progress like this we can all agree he has a bright future in sport!The Assassin Wins Again Vinny DiRuscio took to the Octagon this weekend and secured a win with the ref stopping the contest at the end of the first round at the Rumble in Rush 5, well done Assassin!Dragons Lair Makes History
Dragons Lair, makes history it all started when Owen“The Hitman “ Doyle now one of the Dragons Lair's instructors won his title under Bernards coaching back in 1990 now 20 years later his son Connor “Hitman Jnr” Doyle wins the IKF Irish Junior title by unanimous decision in Galway with Bernard Doyle ( Chief Instructor) becoming the first to coach a father and son to Irish titles.This achiement may yet be topped by Connors selection on the AKAI Irish team to compete in the World championchips to be held in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy this September.
Gathering of the Clans 2011
